This article will show solo-professionals how they can stay motivated to meet their goals and finish projects even when times are tough or there are many distractions around you to do other things. Read on to find out 5 ways to stay motivated and meet your goals.
As a home-based business owner, many times it is very hard to finish projects, meet goals and get to where you want to be. Just think about it, you have no boss breathing down your neck and no coworkers or meetings to make deadlines for.
Although the positives greatly outweigh the negatives with home-based business, sometimes you just need a kick in the pants to stay motivated and finish projects on time. Here are 5 techniques that you can use to stay on track and focused:
1. It's a business, so treat it that way. When you give yourself a project, attach a deadline to it and log it into a calendar or personal planner of some kind. Every goal and project that you take on needs to have a start and end date or you will never finish it.
2. If you don't meet your deadline, give yourself a punishment. If you have a day job you won't get away with missing goals too many times before you get fired. Treat yourself the same way. Reduce your salary for the month, don't treat yourself to lunch for that week, anything to reinforce that you need to get projects done on time.
3. Don't work on something too long without a break. Every 30 min-1hr of intense work, take a 5-10 minute break. Get up walk around your house, get some coffee and then sit back down and get back to work. Using a timer here will help a lot as well. If you work to beat the timer you can get a lot done in a short time period.
4. Listen to music but leave the TV off. TV will kill your productivity dead, but the right kind of music will speed you up.
5. Wear an article of clothing or jewelry when you are "at work." Maybe you have a special hat or pair of shoes. These are your "business shoes" and if you have them on, you better be doing something productive towards your business.
